There are two data files. The .wiff format files stores the meta data for the mass spectrometer; it was acquired in Analyst software. It can be read in both SCIEX OS and Analyst software.

The .wiff.scan format file stores the actual x y scan data for the mass spectrometer and is always paired with a .wiff file. This data file was acquired in Analyst software and can be read in both SCIEX OS and Analyst software. "
